Electrodata assists State Transit with vehicle identification Print
Monday, 25 September 2006

State Transit Authority of NSW operates a two-way radio system for management of its bus fleet.  In the past, all radio calls were recorded for auditing purposes and was only possible to locate recorded information based on the time and date of the event.

State Transit uses a Selcall Automatic Numeric Identification (ANI) system for calling and identifying buses, information that is also recorded on tape along with the voice communications.  It was recognised that a search based on Selcall ANI could speed up the search process when trying to locate a specific recording.

Following an investigation with a number of recorder suppliers State Transit decided to give Electrodata Pty Ltd a supply order to develop a recorder that could do just that.  State Transit was aware that Electrodata had been building voice logging recorders for over thirty years and its clients included Qantas, ANZ Bank, Queensland Rail, the “000” emergency services in several states, and many other high profile customers.

State Transit were impressed that Electrodata had its own R&D and engineering team and could undertake the work required.  After a relatively short development period, Electrodata produced a solution that met this specific requirement.  A 32 channel Advantage recorder incorporating this new feature was delivered to State Transit Bus Radio Control Room at the Transport Management Centre, Eveleigh in April 2006, where it satisfactorily passed commissioning tests.

Following this success, Electrodata has been able to offer a similar solution to a number of mining companies.  In the mining industry, identification of who is making each 2-way radio call is vital in recreating accident scenarios and writing accurate incident reports.
